Chairman Rostron called meeting to order at 7:08 p.m.
PRESENT: Rostron, Eiden, Sr. Claire, Hoyt, Witliavv.so,,,
M GUESTS: Eunice and Harold Torkeldson
Rostron distributed flyers regarding a Job and 'Training Workshop..
Guests, Mr. and Mrs. Torkeldson were introduced as prospective members of the
Commission.

stron reported on the PACER PUPPET presentation to be held at 'cleaver Elementary
School in Maplewood, and also Carver Elementary School.
Weaver presentation will be sponsored by the Association of Parent/Teachers, May 22nd
at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12:00 noon for 1-4 grades.
Carver presentation will be sponsored by Parent Teachers Association and Maplewood,
Human Relations Commission on Wednesday, -.May 21st at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and '
12:30 p.m.
Rostron will contact local paper for publicity.
Rostron has arranged for the "The Mentally Retarded, Our Neglected N inority" display
to be exhibited at the Maplewood Niall June 22-28. Still to be clarified are the
questions of insurance and transporting of the exhibit.
Williamson entered the meeting at 7:48 p.m. She will contact Maplewood City Manager,
Lais regarding the insurance and transportation liability.
There were no new grievances this month. Kwapick working on the housing grievance.
Williamson reported on the League meeting. The League is working toward a tax
exemnt status. They have hired a consultant who is seeking funding sources.
The League is putting together a mission statement.
Their next meeting is the 4th Saturday of the month in the Metro area.
Rostron called our attention to the Civil Rights Restoration Act and suggested we
write to our legislative representatives and seaa.tors regarding this Act.

letter to the Chairs of the Committee sponsoring this Act. Motion carried.
Discussion of the St. Paul PSR (Protect, Shelter, and Referral) problem. St. Paul
Councilmen voting to :Hove them from their ',Jest Seventh Street location.
Commissioner responsibilities: Williamson - Check on MR exhibit insurance and
transportation
Hoyt and Kwapick - assist with roving exhibit
Rostron - To contact newspaper regarding PACLa
performance
Will attend APT meeting at Weaver

Sister Claire recognized for her interview in the Catholic Bulletin regarding
the locating of parents of orphans. This was a follow-up of an article she wrote
about the St. Joseph's C rphanage.
Next meeting agenda items: Assess PACER Puppets

Civil Rights Restoration Act
Next meeting will be Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Maplewood Public Works
Building. If unable to attend, please call Rostron.
