MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
Tuesday, January 5, 1993

I. Call to Order
A. Agenda approved as printed.
II. Approved of Minutes
Corrections - Jim Garrett and Mike McGuire were absent.
Correction - IV Reports - A. Change last paragraph to read "in helping with no
fault grievance training."
III. Old Business
A. Diversity Award - Letters with applications to go out after this meeting to
participating schools with follow up by commissioners. Call by
commissioners to be made to each school to see that they got the letter and
know the deadline.
B. Annual Report - Changes made as suggested by Commissioners.
C. II Iaplewood businesses contacted with letter - sent out December 30 to 46
Maplewood Businesses.
IV. New Business
A. No fault grievance - Dept. of Human Rights - sent a letter advising how
Maplewood Commission should deal with grievances that may be referred to
them.
B. Hate Crime Response - memo to be drafted by Gail to Chief of Police re:
notification and involvement of Human Relations Commission in hate crime
incidents. Procedural outline draft to be discussed at the next meeting.
V. Reports
A. League of MN Human Rights Commission Pat reported - Two-hour session
with Dept. of Human Rights - re: no fault grievance procedure--to be held
in Golden Valley on January 23.
B. City of Maplewood
Charitable Gambling Funds--criteria developed as to what projects will get
funds. Requests in writing for sepcific need. Budget Hearing - 1993
Budget has been approved. Sexual harassment suit against Maplewood has
been settled out of court by insurance carrier.
C. Joint School Integration Project
D. Grievances
Karla has a grievance referred to her by Gail. Problem of a woman
complaining about a neighbor calling police when she makes what they say
is excessive noise. Karla will check with the Maplewood Police Department.
