Call to Order The meeting of the Maplewood Human Relations Commission was called to order at 7:05 p.m., on June 2, 1992, by Karla Sand, Chair. II. Minutes Minutes of the May 5, 1992 meeting, with corrections, were approved as written. III. Old Business A. Human Rights Award Suburban Chamber of Commerce will notify us in September as to when their next meeting date will be and if we can present our Human Rights Award at that meeting. B. Maplewood Human Rights Day Combining some kind of joint effort with the City Hall - Police Department Open House. Also try to encourage Maplewood schools to display their art relating to the Human Rights theme, in connection with the open house. Gail to talk to Police Chief and the Mayor about this idea. C. Joint Efforts Karla will send out a letter to Eastern suburbs asking them to a meeting to discuss joint efforts for commissions, to entertain and work together with in the future. D. School District Project Joint projects with the school districts--Karla will plan and meet with Kathy Huyen to plan a possible brain storming session regarding common interests. IV. New Business A. Diversity Awareness Award Plan further in September, since award may not be given until May next year. Hopefully, money will be available from Premier Bank. Also, Gail has requested an additional $500 from the City's 10% gambling proceeds for this or other educational/awareness efforts. V. Reports A. League of MN Human Rights Commission No Report B. City of Maplewood Two complaints have been received by the Department of Human Rights. Gail circulated them for our information only. C. Grievances No grievances D. Other Hate Discrimination Seminar--Jim Garrett reported. Mayor of Denver gave keynote speech. VI. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Gordon Heininger
