Legislature - Crystal Room A Wayne Groff, Moderator Members of the Minnesota Legislature discuss their role in human rights. Minnesota Department of Human Rights- Crystal Room B Tom Kuster, Moderator Representatives of the department will discuss and answer questions on the issues facing the department and local human rights commissions , including no fault mediation. Included in this will be a discussion on how to start a commission. 2:15 PM BREAK 2:30 PM BREAK-OUT SESSIONS Repeat of Above 4:00 PM RECEPTION Audience 4:30 PM ADJOURN HIGHLIGHTS 9/91 - 8/92 • The 1991 ( 20th) Annual Conference was held at the Crystal Community Center. The Annual Human Rights Award was given to MATTHEW LITTLE. • A 20 year history of the League was compiled. • Sponsorship of Diversity and Human Rights Survey with West Hennepin Human Services to develop an information base defining needs & efforts in human rights in 100 selected cities of Minnesota. • Support of No Fault Grievance Process in the face of loss of budget and staff support at the state level. • Bias Response Network began work through the Planning Committee of the League. Letters to editors of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and St. Cloud newspapers regarding hate crimes and letters to recipients of hate mail. • League took part in the May 18th Conference held by Suburban Hennepin Anti-Racism Committee on Racism in the Suburbs. • July News Conference at the State Capital was convened to kick off the League sponsored Campaign Against Hate & Bigotry and to celebrate our Diversity. The focal points of the campaign are a pledge form, a speakers bureau, and a drive to establish new Human Rights Commissions. The campaign is funded with a beginning grant of $20 ,000 from the McKnight Foundation. • The League purchased a computer, printer, and modem with fax capability. District Directors - Two year term, will be elected this year from Districts 2 & 7 for a term running from 01/93 to 12/94 . * Elected by district represented. Directors at Large - One year term, will be elected this year for a term running from 01/93 to 12/93 . Nominated from the floor and elected by the membership as a whole. *There shall be one additional District Director for each four commissions, or a majority part thereof. •ONLY TWO MEMBERS OF THE SAME LOCAL COMMISSION MAY BE ELECTED TO THE BOARD. •THIS YEAR DISTRICT DIRECTORS FROM DISTRICTS 2 & 7 WILL BE UP FOR ELECTION.
