Maplewood Nature Center & Neighborhood Preserves, 2659 East Seventh Street in Maplewood offers these events.

• Tuesday, July 18 from 7 to 8 p.m., Garden Tour – Native Plants For Pollinators, This event is for adults. The cost is
$5/person. Register online by Monday, July 17. Tour the nature center butterfly and rain gardens to see the colorful
flowers. Learn how to attract butterflies to your yard by planting native plants with nourishing leaves for caterpillars
and flower nectar for adults. Learn which flowers attract bees and hummingbirds to design for specific pollinators.
Take home a seed packet of native flowers to sow.
• Saturday, July 22, 2 to 3 p.m., Meet The Animals. This free event is for all ages and is a drop-in program, limited to
the first 40 people. Meet a snake, salamander and toad, to learn more about Minnesota’s wild animals and where
they live in the summer. You can share your stories about real wild animal encounters, if you choose. Make a
slithering craft, and have a hoppy good time.
• Saturday, July 29, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Build A Bat House. This event is for adults and children ages 7+ with an adult
and is also perfect for scout groups. Prepay $25/bat house. Register online by Monday, July 24. Here’s something
fun to do with your kids during summer vacation. Learn how to build a bat nursery with Elpis Enterprises, using
reclaimed cedar fencing. Save some cash and build your own bat house that follows Bat Conservation International’s
bat house guidelines. Your building- or pole-mounted bat nursery may help nature’s threatened bug-zappers.
Maplewood Nature Center is a 40-acre preserve operated by the City of Maplewood and is open Tuesday through
Saturday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Nature Play Yard adjoins the Visitor Center. Trails wind through oak woods and
marsh and are open every day from dawn to dusk. Use of facilities is free of charge. For more information about
