Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, March 2, 2004
Members Present: Roberta Hawkins, Gordy Heininger, Jeff Kringle, Elmo Mattox, Carol

Ex-officio: Karen Guilfoile
I. Elmo Mattox called the meeting to order.
II. Motion made by Jeff to approve the minutes. Bobbie seconded the motion.
III. Motion made by Jeff to approve the agenda. Bobbie seconded the motion.
IV. Old Business
A. Speech Contest
1. In the March's Maplewood City News.
2. 1000 copies of the Speech Contest Flier will be available for distribution at
the People's Fair.
3. One complaint has been received about not having the poster contest.
4. Karen will deliver People's Fair material to Marilyn.
5. The Speech Contest information is on the city's web site.
6. Lilly News will run an advertisement for the speech contest.
7. The winner of the Speech Contest will present their speech for the City
Council on May 10 at 7 p.m.
8. The Government Television Network will televise the contest for viewing—
can be aired 5 times on Channel 17.
9. The President of Premier Bank will be the chief judge for the contest.
B. People's Fair
1. Marilyn and Karen have been in contact for details of the People's Fair.
2. Karen will deliver the items needed for the fair to Marilyn.
3. Members have their schedule of when to work at the booth for the Fair.
V. New Business
A. 2500 fliers that highlight the purpose, etc. of the HR Commission will be printed.
B. The City Council will interview candidates for the boards and commissions. The
candidates will not first be interviewed by the commission and then recommended
to the board by the board or commission. Each perceptive candidate will have to
attend two meetings before they will be interviewed by the City Council.

Gordy made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Bobbie seconded the motion.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Jeff:
• Will mail the information sheet for the Speech Contest, the Speech Contest flier, rules of
participation and contest procedures, layout of room,judging criteria, and the grid to the
teachers and principals of the three participating schools.
• Will email the completed Speech Contest Flier to Karen and bring copy to April Meeting.
Karen:
• Will mail the same items that Jeff is mailing to the school, to the judges.
• Will have place cards made for the contestants for the Speech Contest.
