for a news article in the Maplewood Review.
P.R. Brochure
Samples of different brochures were passed around and content and make up
discussed. Recommendations will be incorporated into mock-ups for discussion
in May. Williamson volunteered to tackle the assignment.
Fischer - Workshop Development
Peter trying to make contact with the Chamber of Commerce and has discovered
that an audience for a topic such as the HR Act and its impact on business
would be of interest to the school district. Could be made mandatory for
certain teaching staff. Discussion on topics that would be suitable and whether
there should be more than one topic tackled. Peter will pursue and report
at May meeting. Will try to coordinate with and through the Chamber. Will check
to see if there is a specific topic of interest to that body.
No Fault Grievance Update
Update on open cases. Comment from officers: A lot of the grievants will use
the process to "get back" at the respondents. Explained the possible expansion
of the NFG process by the State Department
. send us the old cases sothey can eliminate the ones that are "cold".
. cases could start with formal intake at state level and then transferred to
the certified commissions.
Discussion on how we could strengthen our role in this process . .. .
Some of the suggestions were: (brainstorming)
. bring commission to full strength.
. could request expansion of membership with half of the commissioners trained
in NFG process and the others taking over the miscellaneous chores of the
commission.
. set up special committee just for NFG handling.
. must wait to see what the new Commissioner's wishes are and also what the
funding position of the State will be.
Membership
Maplewood in Motion article April/May/June issue. Could also send out a call to
the Maplewood Review? Fischer/Larsen will draft.
NFG Case Update
#6 - Bowl: Contacted both parties. Settled.
#7 - AFDC/housing: Met with respondents. Case for eviction upheld. Got back
to grievant; very unhappy at outcome. Checked with State Department to
make sure we had covered every avenue. We could now disassociate ourselves
from this complaint. Formal letter was drafted to grievant, per request.
Reminded her that option to go to State was still open.
2-MHRC Business Meeting March 1, 1983
1983 Commission Goals
Goals will be reviewed at next business meeting. If personal assignments need to
be made to fulfill goal, it will be done at that time.
 Council/Commission Meeting
Highly gratified and appreciative of the acceptance by our Council to roundtable.
April 5, 1983. Discussion of how evening would be "constructed" to get the most
mileage out of this opportunity. Annual Report would definitely be in their
hands before that date and would provide an excellent take off point.
Accessibility Study - Rostron
Have scheduled meeting with Jeff Olson to explore the feasibility of HUD funds
for the study.
HRA Update - Bryant
Special HRA meeting being held. Our senior housing/moderate 1st time buyer
project is in jeopardy. Builder is making new demands. This was a package deal
already approved by the City Council. When Council agreed to it it was the
seniors building and the 1st time home buyers program without tax increment
discount. We had hoped this would encourage moderate housing for Maplewoodites;
new proposal would open it up to anyone. Would be supplying police, fire and
medical services for people that have no vested interest in our community. HRA
told them to go back to the drawing board; refigure. HRA will stick with
seniors building. More later.
Next meeting April 5, 1983. St. Paul's Priory. Special Council night.
Meeting adjourned.
Maria Larsen, Secretary
