Williamson Regrets: Bryant, Larsen • Vice Chairman Peter Fischer called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. Peter noted that his name was misspelled in the October minutes. Motion to approve the Minutes of the October 6, 1981, meeting, as corrected (with Peter's last name correctly spelled) was moved by Lynch. Seconded by Haynes, and carried. Announcements The public housing tour was attended by Peter Fischer, Sister Clare Lynch, and Maria Larsen. They felt it was a worthwhile experience. Correspondence The Secretary was provided witha copy of a letter sent by Peter Fischer to the Commissioner of the State Human Rights Department regarding the HRC familial housing survey. To date, no response has been received. Peter will follow-up. Goals and Activities - 1981-82 (SEE SEPARATE SHEET ATTACHED - PLEASE REVIEW) Discussion ensued on the various goals and activities of the MHRC. (These will be listed on a separate sheet rather than included in the Minutes, in order to have available for further discussion.) In connection with this item, some time was spent on ways to publicize Commission activities and objectives. Suggestions included possibly a regular column in the Maplewood Review to explain the Commission and the involvement in the No Fault Grievance Procedure. Also, possibly distributing a pamphlet in high school libraries. Preparation of a good, solid, article on the Commission for publication in the Maplewood Review was considered; contact with community groups, Chamber of Commerce and any prominent persons in our locality was mentioned. These ideas will be pursued at further meetings. Inviting the City Council to a regular HRC meeting was also favored. Accessibility Survey Scott Rostron explained how these surveys have been conducted in the past. One or two HRCs have been involved to date. Coon Rapids found that awareness of inaccessible buildings was high following their survey, and some steps have been taken to make changes. This project served to heighten community concern of the issue. Scott noted that the evaluation tool used in one of the surveys is being redeveloped, and might be useful to review when completed. Peter Fischer suggested we invite someone to our next meeting to explain the details of the accessibility survey conducted in Coon Rapids. Sett will follow-up on this. Mileage will be paid for the visitor (s) . Annual Report 1980 Bob Williamson made a brief appearance and distributed the Annual Reports to the members. Everyone was extremely pleased with the cover design. Commission Vacancies Two vacancies exist on the Commission and steps will be taken to publicize. Members were reminded to review the listing of Goals and Activities and prioritize prior to the next meeting on December 1st. Meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m. Submitted by Pat Williamson
