Absent: Haynes, Williamson
Minutes of 9/21/82 business meeting approved as mailed.
High School Pakcet - MN HR Act -Fischer
Peter will give presentations on the same day to four classes of "American
Problems" at Hill/Murray High School.
. 50 minute presentation.
. Brief summarization of the act, item by item -- what it is,what guarantees
it provides, and who the guarantees apply to.
. Sexual harrassment appears to be a major discriminatory item, so may stress
it.
. Will use visual aids.
. Suggestion . . . . use a film or slide presentation which would break up the
presentation and cement attention span.
Senior Citizen Condo Project - Bryant
Community residents packed the council meeting and were up in arms. However,
several members of council have toured facilities since the presentation of
the plans to the council. Are having second thoughts. Plan is well laid out
and would plug the seniors into the amenities provided by the Hazelwood Center.
Item before the Council, again, on October 7th.
Annual Report -Bryant
To increase commission visibility, we will send copies to the other service
groups within the City such as the HRA, North, Tartan and Archbishop Murray
High School, North St. Paul and Maplewood public libraries, League of MN
Human Rights Commissions and, of course, Manager = City Council = and depart-
ment heads.
Accessibility Study - Discussion of NHHI Services
Discussion of agent presentation and the services NHHI would provide. Since
the accessibility study is a primary goal for the Commission and the agency
would provide guidance from A-Z, motion was made and carried, that we employ
NHHI. Julie will be contacted again by Scott, asked to the next business
meeting, and we will take the preliminary steps to implement the study.
Proposed Handicapped Amendment to HR Act - Rostron
State Council for the Handicapped, special task force, developing appropriate
language to go into the HR Act which would pro”ide appropriate protection for
disabled persons that are applied to state protected classes, or to other
persons by federal law. HR department will co-author legislation with the
State HC. Motion: MHRC go on record in support of the language and intent
of the proposed legislation. Carried. Secretary requested to write a letter
to the State Department of HR stating we have seen the draft and support it.

Rights Commission at their next board meeting October 30,1982. Accepted.

legislators.
Old Business: Can a non-certified commissioner work on a case with a
certified one? Maria called intake. Unqualified Yes. Very
good training ground. Scott and Maria are thereby assigned
to case fM .
Case #3 update: Bus driver. Respondents would not meet with no fault
grienvance officers. Matter turned over to the state.
