HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/02/1982 MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting - March 2, 1982 1-� Present: Fischer, Haynes, Lynch, Rostron, Williamson Regrets: Bryant, Larsen Vice President Fischer called the meeting to order at 7:49 p.m. Minutes of February 2, 1982, were approved with the correction that Sister Claire was also in attendance. Announcements - The Midwinter Conference Workshop of the League of Mn HRC will be held Saturday, March 13. Topic: "HR Impact '82." Maria will attend, possibly Jim Haynes. Materials will be brought to next meeting. It was noted that this date conflicts with the 50th District political convention. The Housing and Redevelopment Authority has two vacancies. Seven applicants so far. Peter will contact these people also to see if they might be interested in the HRC openings, which will also be publicized. Accessibility Survey - Scott will obtain updated version of the survey form for the next meeting. List needs to be developed to include businesses, schools and churches, etc. Strategy of operation must be agreed upon. May produce an accessibility guide also. Peter will contact City Hall, and the North Suburban chamber of commerce for information. League of Minnesota HR Commissions - Peter reported that he has been unable to attend and has resigned from the Commission. Overlays for the high school �-�.. education packet are being made available by the League. Peter will use at Hill-Murray high school; also will consider showing the HRC and maybe inviting Maplewood Review reporters. Letter to City Manager concerning staff liaison loss was reworked. The Secre- tary will retype and mail. Maplewood Review Column - Jim Haynes reviewed an outline he had prepared with goals and timetables. This will be mailed to his subcommittee (Larsen, Lynch, Fischer) and pulled together before the next meeting in April. Should be able to use data for one or two articles. Scott Rostron shared his experiences while visiting his daughter's school "open house" when he learned about the restrictive library materials selection process and wondered what process is used in other schools. An effort will be made to check into the procedures by other schools. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Submitted by Pat Williamson
