League or Minnesota Human Rights Commissions
. Annual Meeting
Excellent! Only criticism; the fact that'perhaps1there was too much to
assimilate comfortably. However, meeting presenters and topics were thought
provoking and very educational. Theme -- Human Rights - What's next!
June 25 and 26. Williamson, Bryant, Rostron, Haynes, Larsen, and Marla
Rostron, attended on Friday night. Rostron and Larsen attended on Saturday.
In the absence of the Board Secretary, Larsen volunteered to act as secretary.
. Maplewood commissioners were not able to run for Board this year because
of schedule conflicts. Larsen did not run for a directorship because of a
lack of mobility. However, League Chair has requested Larsen to accept
special appointment. It would be the first time in 11 years of League
existence that Maplewood would not be represented. Special appointment
accepted.
. Annual dues statement has been received. Motion: dues of $87.50 be
paid. Motion carried.
Annual MHRC Report - Lucille Bryant
Report items submitted to Bryant. Bryant and Williamson have volunteered
to meet and pull the report together. Submit draft at September meeting.
Reviewed and discussed content items.
Those responsible for various commission activities during the year are
asked to write an abbreviated account that will be used for the 1982 annual
report. Will review in September to check feasibility of a November deadline.
Set goal to submit completed report no later than February 1983.
Accessibility Study - Scott Rostron
Discovered there is a firm that does these special studies. Monies to fund
are obtained by special funding grants. Scott will invite Julie Quarve-
Peterson, coordinator, to the September business meeting to discuss the
benefits of tapping into such a professional survey. Scott will also contact
Randy Johnson to check into the mechanics of funding request.
Education Packet - Peter Fischer
Peter was asked to "back up" and go through administration for alternatives
to HR Act packet presentation. The HRC is interested in educating high schoo' -
ers on the various facets of the HR laws. Packet is primed toward classroom
type situation. The school instructors themselves would be able to use.
For example, would fit very nicely into "American Problems", Social Studies
class. Report in September.

Familial Housing - Peter Fischer
We will dismiss the idea of a comprehensive community survey of apartments
and mobile parks. Instead, draft a letter that will be sent to managers and
owner/operators of the various complexes. The need is to inform. Jim
Haynes volunteered to draft the letter. September follow through.
No Fault Update
Now working on three cases. One has been resolved, one is in the process,
one is new. Employment in two cases, sexualharrassment the other.
HRA Update - Lucille Bryant
Working on a plan for constructing moderate income housing. Small single
units for older adults that would allow them to move out of private homes
into protected environments. The homes could then be sold to moderate
income families who cannot find affordable housing. The council has o.k.ed
the 1st step; will fund initial feasibility study.
