1. MINUTES
Motion was made, seconded and voted in favor of accepting the Minutes
of February 7, 1989 as presented.
2. OLD BUSINESS
A. Grievances - Commission has no grievances at this time.
B. Desegregation - Letter has been sent to District 622 indicating
the Commission's willingness to participate in any discussions
of this issue. Paul Sand will follow up with the Superintendent.
C. Martin Luther King Day - Pat Williamson will follow up on the
Commission's request on what the League of Minnesota Human Rights
Commissions' stand is on school closings on this day.
D. Biennial Report - Pat Williamson and Karla Sand will put together
a draft report for review by the Commission at the April meeting.
E. Essay Contest - An agenda item for the April meeting.
F. Educational Articles - Paul Sand and Sister Claire will contact
Mary at the Maplewood Review about publishing articles periodically
on human rights issues written by Commission members.
3. NEW BUSINESS
A. Nomination Forms - Commission suggested placing nomination forms
for the Essay Contest and the Human Rights Award in the racks
in the lobby at City Hall.

B. New Members - We need one Commission member to fill the vacant seat.
Jim Garrett, a Maplewood resident, who is on the St. Paul Commission
is a possibility.
C. Department of Human Rights - Pat Williamson will write a letter to
the Department of Human Rights in support of their legislative
activities for the current legislative session.
4. REPORTS
Gail - Gail discussed with Jeff Olson the community development issues.
There will be a joint meeting to discuss the needs of the elderly and
disabled in Maplewood.

Gail - Gail reported on the Affirmative Action Report for the City of
Maplewood. She will give the Commission one copy to review.
Gail also reported that she is reviewing the City's Personnel
Policies and will get input from the Commission.
