1 . MINUTES
M/S/A of the November 14, 1989 Minutes of the Maplewood
Human Relations Commission meeting.
2 . UPDATE OF GRIEVANCES
Volunteer Fire Department - Commissioner Williamson is
in contact with the grievant.
R . Sex discrimination/Sears - Commissioner Sand is in
contact with grievant who claims she was terminated from
her employment because she is pregnant.
C . Age discrimination - Commissioners Engel and Vassar are
in contact with grievant who claims she was terminated
because of her age .
3 . OLD BUSINESS
A . Essay Contest - Copy of the letter to the winner and a
copy of the certificate given to other persons who
entered was distributed .
News release was sent to the Maplewood Review and the
Pioneer Press giving the December 14 date at 3 :15 p.m.
in the Council Chambers .
Commissioner Cooper will attend and Council members will
be invited as well as school superintendent, principal,
and teacher of Melissa Coons, the winner.
Commissioner Williamson will contact Melissa and ask
if we can submit her essay to the Maplewood Review.

B . Human Rights Award - Award will be given on January 18,
1990 at the Suburban Chamber of Commerce meeting held
at the Days Inn. It is a luncheon and we need to make
reservations .
4. NEW BUSINESS
A . Newspaper article - Dawn distributed a copy of her article
written on the No Fault Grievance Procedure and in
recognition of International Human Rights Day, December 10.
She will submit the article to the Maplewood Review for
publication.
B . Annual Report - Pat asked all commissioners to start
putting their thoughts together on the next report
to begin in January, 1990 .
C . Seniors and Others with Special Living Needs Committee -
Scott Rostron is the Commission's representative on this
committee.

6. SPECIAL SESSION
Commissioners adjourned to a special session to review and
select the recipient of the Human Rights Award. Patricia
Svendsen was selected to receive the award .
Pat will contact Marla Rostron and Patricia Svendsen.
Karla will send letters to other nominators .
Commission members will discuss press information at the
January meeting.
