HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/21/1987 MAPLEWOOD HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING September 21, 1987 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. St. Paul's Priory ATTENDEES Scott Rostron, (Chair) Karla Sand Patricia Williamson Sister Claire Lynch The members met for this special meeting to prepare the newsbrief to the Maplewood Review on these issues: 1) The Maplewood Human RElations Commission plans to give an award to a citizen or group (in Maplewood) who has performed a specific service in eliminating discrimination based on sex, race, religion or shown commitment in protecting and preserving the dignity and worth of all persons. 2) The Maplewood Human Relations Commission is encouraging the schools in Maplewood to participate in the "sign on" project celebrating the 200 Anniversary of the Constitution of the U.S. This project is coordinated by the NCCJ and is officially endorsed by the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. (This information will be sent to the elementary schools in the Maplewood area.) 3) The Maplewood Human Relations Commission is endorsing the 12th Annual Student Congress on the Living Constitution of the U.S. sponsored by the NCCJ to be-held at Coffman Memorial Union, (U of MN), December 10-11, 1987. Senior high schools in this area will be contacted.) 4) Suggestions were made to solicit one of the organizations in Maplewood to host a meeting at which time the award will be presented, e.g. Lions Club, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge,City Council. 5) A joint meeting of the Human Relations Commission with the Maplewood City Council to select the nominees for this award.
