In answer to a commission query, Don Ashworth pointed out, inhis report, that liquor license applications do not reguire theaPpLicant to state whether the business to be licensed discrimin-ates in any manner. perrizo volunteered to check witfr eE8#fd-{adtr to determine if its present membership applicatiff discrim-inates in any manner.
April 28 was set as tentative date for the proposed tour ofsubsidized housing developments, with Bransford in charge.
Ashtorth's report pointed out that John Broady,s letter to thevillage council on the inaccessability of polling places wasincluded in the vitlage council agenda packette for the .Tanuary18th. 1973 meeting. No action was taken on this item by thecouncil. Ashworth's report suggested that the MIIRC establish a
committee to make a study and recommendations. Some discussionfollored with Broady pointing out that there is a bill in thestate legislature (Ilouse Fil-e 467-468) dealing with the ,,inaccess-
abiIity" problem.

Grant reported contacting Vanderpoel on the status of the
commission's annual report and forlnd work progreesing but becauseof the comnitteers other cornmitments, the report iE not yet com-pleted.

Grant reported on a new policy of the Uetropol itan Councilregarding its referral process. Under requirements set up bythe federal government for metro council review of applicationsfor federal funds, the metro council must now provide Etate andlocal ci.vil rights agencies with opportunity to review and conrment
on the civil rights aspects of these proposed applications forfederal programs -
Kampf reported on the work of the legislative task force of the
League of Inrman Rights Conunissions. Legislators have been po).Ied
by the League on their positions en human rights legislation, but
retulns of the League questionnaire have been slow. Kampf auggestedthat the UHRC schedule a meeting with the eight legislators who re-present the village. The meeting was tentatively scheduled for
Tuesday. llarch 6th, depending on availability of the Legislators.
Some discussion was held on the Ireague of Human Rights Cmmission's
recomnendations to the 1973 legislature.
The importance of better newspaper coverage of the IIHRC's \"rork
and human relations problems, in general, was discussed. Grantvolunteered to contact the Uaplewood Review regarding possibility
of a monthly MERC column and news coverage.
A decision was made to contact the Uaplelrood parks and Recreation
commission to set up a joint meeting at which programs for the
handicapped and other human relations problems might be discussed.
A broad discussion on the effects of discontinuance of ffiO byNixon was held. As to ho^, this would affect Maplewood, it waspointed out that subsidized housing projects are being abandoned.
Kampf suggested that because of abandonment of so many federalprograms, it would be important for all human relations commissionsto f o11o'r up on state programs which might fill the gap.
The next meeting of the lr{aplewood Human Relations cornmission isTuesday, March 6th at the Village EalI.
