State Bank
offers
personal
service
When the new Texas bride opened her
banking accounts with Maplewood State
Bank, she received a letter of welcome,
signed by Jack Hillstrom, bank
President.
After six months, the tellers greet her
by name and ask about her blood pressure
and the pre-natal classes she's enrolled in
to prepare for the arrival of her first
baby.
Maplewood State Bank is owned by
local businessmen who believe in in-
dividualized service. "Since we opened
our doors," said President Jack
Hillstrom,"we have emphasized personal
service."
With $1.5 million in capital, the bank
opened in August 1, 1974. Their housing
was a mobile home, 24 by 44 feet with a
drive-in addition 10 by 16 feet.
Recently, the increase in customers
demanded an addition of 30 by 24 feet.
This was built as a separate building and
attached to the mobil home unit with
single roofing joining each.
"We did this in spite of moving into our
new building within 6 months," said
Hillstrom. "We grew and we needed the
space to service our customers."
The building currently under con-
struction for the bank's occupancy 2
sometime this summer, is not owned by
I
them. It will be known as the Maplewood 1
Financial Center building. From the
center, the bank will lease about 5,000
square feet.
As we grow, we will lease more
space," said Hillstrom.
The single story, all-brick building will
be 70 by 120 feet with a full basement.The
north side of the building is all windows,
the west and east half windowed, and the
south all brick except the area that will be
used for drive-in bank windows. Three
drive-in lanes will be in operation when
the bank opens at its new location and
three additional drive-in lanes are =
available for expansion.
Bank offices will occupy three-fourths
of the first floor on the east side of the
building.
For customers who want safe deposit
boxes, the bank is installing a large vault
on the first floor which is 24 by 23 feet.An
additional vault is being installed at
basement level. This vault will not be
used until expansion requires.
"Because we are still a$9 million dollar
bank," explained Hillstrom, "we can't
service as much space as the building
holds. But our intention is to be prepared
for expansion as it is needed."
The center is set on a 4 acre site with the 4z
building under construction situated to
allow for more building on the lot should ,**.?'
future demands require additional space.
"The estimated completion date is July
1," said Hillstrom. "We're putting up a
sign this week that will announce,
`Summer, 1978'."
Maplewood State Bank is currently
located at 1979 Beam Ave., Maplewood.
Its summer move will be made across the
street to 2866 White Bear Ave.
