It is hoped that by following these simplerules, everyone’s opinions can be heard and understood in a reasonable manner. We appreciate the fact that when appearing at Commission meetings, it is understood that everyone will follow these principles: Speak only for yourself, not for other Commission members or citizens -unless specifically tasked by your colleagues to speak for the group or for citizens in the form of a petition. Show respect during comments and/or discussions, listen actively and do not interrupt or talk amongst each other. Be respectful of the process, keeping order and decorum. Do not be critical of Commission members, staff or others in public. Be respectful of each other’s time keeping remarks brief, to the point and non-repetitive. E.NEW BUSINESS F.UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1.Goodrich Park Playground Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, updated the commission onthe Goodrich Park Playground. Representatives from Flagship Recreation were there to discuss the Goodrich Park Playground plan. Wednesday,September 21, 2016 Parksand Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes D1D1 Commissioner Molstad moved to approve the Goodrich Park Playgroundplan. Seconded by Commissioner Susag Ayes – All The motion passed. 2.Gladstone Savanna Playground Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, updated the commission on the Gladstone Savanna Playground. Representatives from Flagship Recreation were there to discuss the Gladstone SavannaPlayground plan. Commissioner Susagmoved to approve the Gladstone Savanna Playground plan. Seconded by Commissioner Molstad Ayes – All The motion passed. 3.Vista Hills Playground Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, updated the commission on the Vista HillsPark Playground. Commissioner Brandon moved to approve the Vista Hills Playground plan. Seconded by Commissioner Molstad Ayes – All Draft The motion passed. G.VISITOR PRESENTATIONS 1.Diana Longrie 1771 Burr Street (home address) 1321 Frost Ave East (business address) H.COMMISSION PRESENTATIONS I.STAFF PRESENTATIONS 1.Fish Creek Trails Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, gave an update on the Fish Creek Trailsproject. 2.WOW Events Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, updated the commission on the August 24 WOW Event. 3.Maplewood Rec Run 3K/5K Parks Manager, Jim Taylor, discussed the upcoming Maplewood Rec Run 3K/5K event. At the November Parks Commission Meeting, staff will present an update on activities at Fish Creek. Discussion Maplewood acquired the 70-acre Fish Creek site in December 2013. Restoration work began on the site even before the city owned it. Staff will present an update on activities on the site covering: 1.Trail Construction – completed October 2016 2.Restoration Phase I – completed July 2015 3.Pollinator Program – 2015-2018 4.Oak Migration Study – 2016-2018 5.Future Projects and Events Recommendation No action needed. Attachments None E3 MEMORANDUM TO:Parks and Recreation Commission FROM:Audra Robbins,Recreation Manager Ann Hutchinson, Lead Naturalist DATE:January 18, 2017 SUBJECT:Nature CenterUpdate Introduction Maplewood Nature Center Coordinates educational programs and the Edgerton Community Garden. At the November Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting, staff will present an update on activities at Maplewood Nature Center and the community garden. Discussion Maplewood Nature Center has been involved in the Fish Creek Pollinator Grant, Service Groups, Family programs and more. Staff will present an update on activities on the site covering: 1.Fish Creek Pollinator program(covered under Fish Creek Activities) 2.Educational Programs 3.Community Garden 4.Renovations scheduled for 2017 Recommendation No action needed. Attachments None E4 MEMORANDUM TO:Parks and Recreation Commission FROM:Audra Robbins, RecreationManager SUBJECT:2017Parksand Recreation Commission Goals DATE: January 18, 201 Introduction In compliance with Article II, Section 21.20 of the Maplewood City Ordinance, the Maplewood Parks and Recreation Commission is required to submit an Annual Commission Report. In addition to this report, the Parks and Recreation Commissionwillto provide a list of 2017goals to City Council. Discussion Staff is asking the Parks and Recreation Commission to brainstorm a list of potential goals for 2017. After this list is complete, we will discuss the goalsfurther at the FebruaryParks and Recreation Commission meeting for final approval. Recommendation Staff recommends the Parks and Recreation Commission brainstorm a list of 2017goals to be finalized with theannualreport at the Februarymeeting. Attachments 1.2016 Goals E4, Attachment 1 2016 Goals Brainstorming List 1.Continue to improve our neighborhood parks paying close attention to how we are getting people to these sites. 2.Keep a focus on trails and sidewalks. 3.Have a complete prioritization discussion. Including how money should be spent. 4.Make sure we are considering all pollinators when making decision on our pollinator program. 5.Continue to work on and put specific details to the Parks System Plan. 6.Plan the 2016 neighborhood park improvements. 7.Be involved in the Nature Preserve Improvements.
