The MaPlewood City Countil
Thursday passed an ordinance
prohibiting the showing of X-
rated movies at drive-in theaters
where the movie is visible from
outside the premises.
The "X" rating refers to the
rating assigned by the Motion
Picture Association. The council
previously had considered an
ordinance based on one in effect
in Modesto, Calif., which speci-
fied the acts and anatomical fea-
tures that could not be shown
on the screen.
Maplewood's ordinance also
prohibits indoor and outdoor
theater operators from admitting
minors to X-rated movies, a con-
cern of Councilman Norman
Anderson, who also proposed
the ban on risque outdoor
movies.
The ordinance comes under
the city's nuisance law, which
provides misdemeanorDenaltres
for violations.
