RAPHAEL PRICE,commander of the Lawrence Kaiser VFW Post 8901,Maplewood,
presents Richard Schaller,Maplewood director of public safety, with a$150 check for
the purchase of a film on bicycle safety. The film, produced by Fiesta Film Fair
Communications of Studio California, is aimed at youngsters in the elementary
grades as well as junior and senior high students. The bicycle, according to
Maplewood police, is the most dangerous consumer product and the film outlines
why accidents happen and how to avoid them.It goes on to suggest the importance of
licensing and registering bikes. The VFW, which developed fluorescent tapes for
bike safety which are now mandated by federal legislation, has a continuing concern
for bike safety, Maplewood police said.
