starting 2017 without a home after it was damaged in a fire Sunday
afternoon.
According to the Maplewood Fire Chief, around 4 p.m. firefighters were
called to a report of smoke at a residence on the 500 block of Larpenteur
Avenue East.
Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home. They were
able to quell the smoke.
Preliminary investigation found the fire appeared to start in a ceiling fan in
the bathroom. It then moved to the attic. The attic sustained significant
damage.
Authorities say eight people, four adults and four kids, were displaced as
a result of the fire, and the American Red Cross is providing assistance to
them.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
