Maplewood Area Historical Society recently received a large grant to produce 3M and Maplewood:
Magically Adhered exhibit at Bruentrup Heritage Farm in Maplewood.
The Minnesota Historical Society announced the newest recipients of 54 historical and cultural heritage
large grants $10,001 and up in 29 counties, totaling $4,629,725 for 2017. The grants, awarded once each
fiscal year, are made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land and
Legacy Amendment.
Grant applications were recommended by the Historic Resources Advisory Committee, a volunteer panel
made up of citizens from around the state, as specified by legislation. The MNHS Executive Council
approved the recommendations at their Oct. 27 meeting.
The Maplewood Area Historical Society was awarded $56,614 to hire qualified consultants to develop
and install an exhibit on the history of 3M in Maplewood. The exhibit will open to the public in July
2017.
“We’re so excited to bring the 60th anniversary of Maplewood story to the public in an engaging and
visually appealing exhibit at the Bruentrup Heritage Farm. This exhibit supports our interpretive plan to
highlight Maplewood area history and we could not have finished our plan without the generous grant
award. This was the fourth of four phases in the exhibit planning cycle.” said Nicole DeGuzman,
executive director of the Maplewood Area Historical Society.
The Maplewood Area Historical Society is a non-profit dedicated to preserving and interpreting the
history of Maplewood and its people to ensure this legacy is passed on the future generations.
