Can't Get In
Maplew'oo
McDonald's wants' to
sell hamburgers in Ma-
plewood, but the firm
isn't meeting with much
success.
Last year the city
council denied the fast
food chain a special use
permit to operate a res-
taurant off White Bear•
Avenue near Hwy.36.
McDonald's is back
now with another re-
quest — this time for a
facility off the north side
of Cope Avenue west of
Donny's Restaurant.
The counctl last week
tabled the issue, at least
until March 21.
However, City Manag-
er Michael Miller has al-
ready
l-
ready recommended
against McDonald's.
He called this type of
restaurant : :incompatible
with the surrounding de-
velopment.
The property, he point-
ed out, was zoned for
light manufacturing.
Traffic from the res-
taurant, he warned, will
cause a "hardship" at
the nearby intersection
of White Bear and Cope
avenues.
