Rezoning OKd
For 3M Site
In Maplewood
St. Paul's position on a
proposed rezoning for 3M
Company in Maplewood
was approved by the City
Council Friday after hear-
ing from James Bellus-of
the city planning staff.
The area to be rezoned
borders an East Side resi-
dential area. It is located
east of McKnight Road be-
tween Conway and Minne-
haha avenues.
The city position favors
staged development of the
light manufacturing area
to allow better scheduling
of utilities and services.
It also urges more at-
tention to transportation
problems in the area be-
cause 3,000 more em-
ployes will be working
there. One suggestion is
for Maplewood to realign
Conway Avenue so it
meets Third Street in St.
Paul.
Drainage problems
from storm water runoff
should be handled by use
of a ponding area on the
site, provided no in-
creased runoff goes into
Battle Creek.
It also asks for a land-
scaped buffer zine along
McKnight Road to sepa-
rate the 3M buildings
from the residential area.
Tne city planning staff
said it will cooperate with
Maplewood and Ramsey
County on any problems
encountered in the area.
