"The increases in the Bond Sinking
Funds reflect the continuing growth of the
community," Miller said. "And the in-
creases in the Utility fund reflect the ever
increasing Metropolitan Sewer Board
charges and the need for the
nonassessable construction and repair of
sewer lines."
The village is levying the full amount of
taxes allowable under the Omnibus Tax
law which creates strict levy limitations
for municipal governments in Minnesota
based on 1). population, 2). the amount
(in dollars) levied for in 1971, 3). an an-
nual percentage increase, and 4). the
amount of state sales tax return to the
village.
PASSAGE OF THE federal revenue
sharing bill would give Maplewood ad-
ditional income which could help to ease
some budget problems, although the
Service Availability charge if adopted by
the Metropolitan Sewer Board would take
more village money.
Adopted 1973 budget expenditures are
listed below:
Total budget outlay for 1973 - general
fund - $1,842,905, Utility fund - $798,450,
bond and sinking-$1,336,880 (increase in
all three areas over 1972 estimate).
By department: General government -
$287,275, 1972 estimate $252,235, Public
Safety - $857,450, 1972 estimate $898,170,
Public Works - $479,615, 1972 estimate
$441,610, Recreation and Parks-$155,025,
1972 estimate $173,000, and Community
Development - $63,540, 1972 estimate
$53,590.
