District 622
denies city's
lease plan
A request to lease two
rooms at Gladstone Ele-
mentary School to City
of Maplewood has been
denied by the North St.
Paul-Maplewood District:
622 School Board.
THE BOARD has un-
der consideration a pro-
posal to close the school
permanently at the end
of the 1974-75 term.
But board members 'I
said it would be prema-
ture to commit at this
time to leasing any part
of the school now.
"We would be putting
the cart ahead of the
horse," the board's
Charles Wiger comment-
ed.
"WE JUST haven't de-
cided," he explained,
"how we will use our el-
ementary schools in the
future."
Eric Blank, Maple-
wood's recreation direc-
tor, said the space at
Gladstone School was
sought for the headquar-
ters of the parks and rec-
reation department.
He said the city was
willing to pay the dis-
trict $2 per square foot
for use of two class-
rooms for one year.
