Function not
understood,
board says
Members of the Maplewood
City Council do not understand
the functions of the Community
Design Review Board, the board
has implied in a resolution ad-
dressed to the council.
THE COMMUNITY Design
Review Board has no authority
to tell anyone what he may or
may not do with a building,
board members said. Only the
council has that authority, they
said.
Maplewood �-
All the board does is consider
building plans and recommend
that the council approve, or dis-
approve of the plans, the resolu-
tion said.
FURTHERMORE, the board
said, it is "finding it extremely
difficult to maintain the respect
of developers and to assist the
staff in the enforcement of the
conditions imposed by council
when the actions of the board
are held up to public ridicule by
members of the council."
Board members apparently
were, miffed by published re-
ports of councilmen's comments
about the color of. the Saints
North Roller Skating Center.
The rink's operator received a
letter from the city informing
him that the color of the build-
ing did not comply with a con-
dition of his building permit.
The council agreed to let him
wait to change colors until the
building needs repainting, but
Councilmen John Greavu and
Burton Murdock expressed irri-
tation about the color'restriction.
