Metro figures IglLO
The Metropolitan Council says
Maplewood will have nearly 2,000 people
less next year...and that could mean a
loss of$60,000 to the city in tax revenues.
City Manager Michael Miller explained
that a State demographer indicated that
the Metropolitan Council's population
figures for 1976 were too high, so the
council adjusted those figures downward.
The council said Maplewood had about
29,000 people in 1976,but says the city will
have 27,774 in 1977.
Miller mid the adjustment came in the
average number of persons per
household,from 3.774 in 1970 to 3.327 in
1976.
The difference means the city will be
able to tax$60,000 less in 1977 than in 1976
as the taxation levy limitation law uses
population as a basis for taxation.
Miller said it will take several weeks to
examine exactly what the effect of the
adjustment will be.He also said efforts
are being made to be sure the present
Metro figure is correct.
