A gro p of Maplewood home-
owners who live near the Maple-
wood Mall Shopping Center have
filed lawsuits in Ramsey District
Court challenging assessments for
street and sewer improvements.
The homeowners,most of whom
live along Radatz avenue, claim
they are being charged excessive-
ly for improvements to Beam Av-
enue at the rear of their lots. The
improvements do not benefit their
property 'and if forced to pay
them, they will have to sell their
homes,the suits say.
Six homeowners with 100-foot
wide lots have been assessed
nearly $15,500 each for the street
improvement projects. Several
others with larger parcels of prop-
erty have been assessed higher
amounts, the largest being about
$99,150.
LeRoy Peters,1845 Radatz Ave.,
one of the homeowners,said today
the property owners do not benefit
from the Beam Avenue improve-
ment because they have no access
to it from their property.
