New speed limits adopted by
the Ramsey County Board for
portions-:`,,of McKnight Road
were criticized last week during
the Maplewood City Council
meeting.
"To me, it's a speed trap,"
Councilman John Greavu said.
"You eiflher have one speed or
forget ago}ut it."
The aped limit from High-
way 36 south to the Soo Line
tracks,for example,was reduced
from 45 to 40 mph,and from 40
to 30 mph from Maryland Ave-
nue to just north of Ivy Avenue.
The limits were increased from
30 to 35 Mph from Larpenteur
Avenue to Shryer Avenue in
Maplewood and North St.Paul.
"It appears like a speed trap,
but in alt°practicality,that's how
you drive it,"Councilman Don-
ald Wiegert said.
Greavu said he hopes police
officials,,giye drivers the time
and information to learn about
the speed limits.
The staff also told the council
that the county didn't contact
the city regarding the changes.
"We told them if these things
are coming up,we should know
about it,"City Manager Michael
Miller said.
