Congressman Joseph E. Karth, D.-
Minn.,
:Minn., announced today that a $60,000
program to develop the Michael Lane
Nature Center in Maplewood will be made
possible by a recently-approved federal
grant of$30,000.
Karth said that a U.S. Interior
Department award of $30,000 will be
contingent on two other grants,one for
$15,000 from the State,and the second,
also for $15,000, from the City of
Maplewood.
The congressman reported that the
$00,000 undertaking will mean the
development of"approximately 38 acres
of existing parkland for outdoor
recreation purposes, including safety
fences, site work, dredging, entrance
road, parking, trails and a floating
bridge."Overhead powerlines,he added,
will be buried.
The Nature Center development
program will start in July and must be
completed by the end of 1978,Karth said.
