staff heads
pay hiked
The Maplewood City Council
voted 4-1 last week to give the
city manager and seven depart-
ment heads increases of$140 a
month.
"It's better than $185," said
Councilman Burt Murdock, re-
ferring to the amount the staff
asked for.
John Greavu voted against the
across-the-board increases for
heads of public works, public
safety, community development
community services and for
the finance director, city
clerk and personnel officer.
"Some should get raises, but
some should not. I can't go
along,"he said.
The council, concerned about
inequities in the current salary
schedule,also asked the staff to
make a study and evaluation of
jobs of the department heads
this year.
In other salary-related action,
the council approved, with
Greavu again dissenting,an in-
crease of about 9 per cent for the
deputy police chief,police lieu-
tenant, fire marshal, deputy
health officer, police ser-
geants, emergency prepared-
ness director and city man-
ager's secretary.
