retires from city
Tony Barilla Sr.,who will be leaving the
city of Maplewood after 15 years of ser-
vice, was honored at a dinner Tuesday
night by fellow employees at the Fox and
Hounds Restaurant.
Barilla began his employment with the
city of Maplewood in 1961 and four years
later he was promoted to the position of
sewer foreman. In July of 1974 he was
transferred to the parks department as
foreman.
In city hall Barilla was well liked and
for many years he helped to coordinate
the annual employees' Christmas parties
with the late Oscar Londin, city building
inspector.
Barilla's major incident while working
for the city was helping to pitch in flood
prevention efforts when the Mississippi
River overspileed its banks in 1965.
Prior to his employment with the city,
Barilla was a baker for 10 years.
He is leaving the city on a permanent
disability due to health reasons.
