The Keller Creek restoration, designed to create a pollinator corridor to connectthe Phalen Chain of Lakes, is coming along nicely in
year two and it's time to celebrate! Join Ramsey -Washington Metro Watershed staff and volunteers the evening of Wednesday, July 13
from 6-8 p.m. to celebrate the accomplishments made by the community in this habitat project in Ramsey County Regional Park in
Maplewood. Over 3000 native plants were planted this spring by watershed district students.
Learn about the native plants that have replaced invasive species along the shoreline in a wildflower walk led by district natural
resources technician Simba Blood at 6:30 p.m. Identify the variety of birds in the lush habitats by the creek with Audubon volunteer
Steve Johnson at p.m.
On-going activities that night include creek critter sampling along Keller Creek led by East Metro Resource Education program staff, a
display by Urban Boatbuilders and free ice cream. The organization, Urban Boatbuilders, has built over 250 boats while working with
more than 4,000 youth. Bring your own canoe, kayak or paddle board and try out our new portages.
Park in the Golfview Picnic Area parking lot above the restoration area, 2098 Maplewood Drive in Maplewood, and walk down the hill
to the creek which runs along the path or take the hiking path under Highway 61 that leads to the restoration area. If you'd like to
canoe, kayak or paddleboard, the Lake Phalen boat access at the north end is very close to the restored creek section. Go through the
tunnel, paddle through Round Lake and head north on the creek. Here's a link to a map of the location for this
