HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980 09-03 Maplewood civil defense director named THE REVIEW Maplewood civil defense director nameA Maplewood's new emergency') preparedness director is Larry Cude,35, 2370 E.Larpenteur Ave. He assumed the directorship last week, after being appointed to the position by Mayor John Greavu. He has resided in Maplewood for seven and a half years and is a member of the East County Line Fire Department.He was a member of the Maplewood Police Reserve Unit for seven years. Cude is a computer field engineer for Sperry.Univac in St. Paul. Prior to moving to Maplewood,he lived overseas for 101/2 years and was employed by Bendix Field Engineering. He was assigned to the Apollo Manned Space Program. During the initiation period,Cude will be assisted by the former emergency preparedness director,Cliff Mottaz,who retired on Aug.1. On Aug.28,the Maplewood City Council set Cude's salary for the part-time , position at$300 a month. Greavu originally proposed paying Cude$500 a month,which is the amount he said Mottaz received. However,his fellow council members pointed out that the reserve unit is under the police department now and no longer with the emergency preparedness department,Because of this,the council members believed the$300 figure was fair,and voted unanimously to grant him that salary. Code will also have use of a city-owned automobile.His salary and auto privilege will be reviewed in the next city budget.
