Tennis
courts to
stay open
longer
Some Maplewood parks will
be staying open longer where
there are lighted tennis courts,
the City Council recently decid-
ed.
The change will be tried on
temporary basis,according to
acting City Manager Eric Blank.
UNDER THE city's old ordi-
nance,all parks closed at 11
p.m.,he reported.
But Blank noted:"With the ad-
dition of three lighted tennis
courts it would be practical to
allow people to play tennis after
11 p.m."Blank said a change in
the park curfew ordinance
would:
—Allow greater use of the ex-
pensive facilities.
—Subject the parks to less
vandalism with people playing
at the lighted courts.
—Reduce public frustration
at having to wait for open courts.
Lights,he noted,will shut
down at 11 p.m.at the Four Sea-
sons Park.But the Afton Heights•
I Park and Maplewood Heights
Parks will stay open until mid-
night and 1 a.m.,respectively,he
said.
