The No. 1 place millennials want to work:
3M, survey says

Ask a few thousand millennials where they want to work and many will say Google or Apple – no surprise in the
high-technology age.
But this year when 13,000 of them were asked that very question, the workplace mentioned most o en was the
Maplewood company formerly known as Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. The old blue chip, which had never
cracked the top 100 in previous surveys, leapfrogged the tech, health care and media companies to debut at No. 1.
The results of the annual survey were announced Monday by the National Society of High School Scholars.
Rounding out the top five were Google, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Walt Disney and local hospitals. The
Mayo Clinic in Rochester came in at No. 13, just above Microso and Nike.
“People want to be part of a company where they have room to grow, take on new challenges and help others by
giving back,” 3M vice president for human resources, Marlene McGrath, said in a statement touting the results. “We
oer people the opportunity to develop work experiences in multiple businesses and geographies around the world
and improve lives through science.”
NSHSS members age 15-32 responded to the survey. Among those who selected 3M as their company of choice, 74
percent are in high school and 21 percent are in college.
“If you look at our members, in terms of their interest in the STEM fields, it’s a really strong fit with 3M and the
innovative ideas and solutions that the company is developing,” said Beth Pann, vice president of National Society
of High School Scholars.
