Maplewood Mayor John
Greavu last week named Bill
Lorenz to chair an 11-member

LORENZ'appointment comes
after he suggested the commit-

for too long we haven't had a
voice in the salaries of the staff."
But the Council decided that lack
of involvement would end and
took Lorenz's suggestion to es-
tablish the committee.
Last week,each Council mem-
ber made two selections to the
committee.The following Coun-
cil members named these indi-

Lorenz recently said:"The in-
tent of this committee should be
to assure the taxpayer and the
Council that it's receiving what
it is paying for:good government
at a reasonable and fair cost
without excess personnel or ex-
cessive salaries."
He added that the committee
can do this by reviewing job de-
scriptions and comparing the
salaries of similar positions in
other communities.The Council
has set July 1 as the deadline for
the committee to present its
findings and recommendations.
