Helping to foster recreational
development and attractive
housing are two challenges
ahead for
Maplewood,
says City Coun
cil candidate

filed for one of
two council
seats,said:
"We need to
provide attrac- ., k;
tive,affordable Bastian
housing,partic-
ularly for young families and our
senior citizens.
"AT THE SAME time we
must provide adequate recre-
ational facilities because infla-
tion and the continuing energy
crisis means we can no longer
travel great distances to obtain
the rest and recreation that ev-
eryone needs in life."
An attorney and a research
staff director for the Minnesota
State Senate,Bastian has a bach-
elor's degree from the Universi-
ty of Wisconsin at River Falls
and a law degree from William
Mitchell College of Law.
He is on the board of directors
for the North St.Paul-Maple-
wood-Oakdale division of the
North Suburban Chamber of
Commerce and is a member of
the Ramsey County
and Minne-
sota Bar Associations.
Bastian,2997 Chisholm Park-
way,said he's also concerned
about city administration and
property taxes.
"In my five and a half years as
a researcher in the Minnesota
Senate I have concentratedon
the fiscal and budgeting proce-
dures
odures of state government,"he
said.
"I believe this experience can
be very valuable to the city in
insuring we get the maximum."
