Council okays
liquor licenses
A liquor license was granted to Gary P.
Cormican and Susan Kay Cormican for
on-sale liquor at Mr. Pizza Restaurant,
1820 N. Rice St. Initially, the Maplewood
City Council was concerned that there
might be problems in controlling sales
since the restaurant was originally a fast
food service and that besides sit-in ser-
vice, there is still take-out service. Also,
there is an approved amusement park
and a large beach in the immediate area
that many young people use.
Lawyer Pat McCullough spoke in behalf
of the Cormicans, reminding the council
that the Cormicans already had a license
for 3.2 beer, and that the police chief had
not found any problems with that.
Gary Cormican claimed that he
couldn't see any real problems with the
beach since there are separate facilities
for adults and children in his restaurant.
He indicated that he planned to conduct
take-out service from a window in the
kitchen, and that he would also change the
signs in front of the restaurant.
After Mayor Greavu warned, "We'll
come down on you if there are any
violations," Councilman Nelson moved
that with the changes that the applicant
planned to make, the license be issued.
A liquor license was also granted to
John J. Gormley and Ruth A. Gormley,
whose restaurant is located at Stillwater
and Century.
