1 ON COUNCILMAN Norm Anderson's One lot, with the residence, would have trees and the smaller-than-usual lot size'
for their neighborhood.
"I have found a couple trees that are
pretty dry on the property, and I want you
to consider the damage they would do to ,
my property if they were to fall," Abdel
Aziz told the council. "Also,I would close
the exit into Sterling Street and open one
on Stillwater."

Lyle Ryan, 967 Sterling Ave., said he
objected to the"misfit plan" and he had
written to the mayor saying the same. "I
am surprised you have let this come up
again. At the original time of building, the
lot was not intended for two homes.I have
lived here for 22 years and don't think this
would be in the best interest of the neigh-
-bors.
"To divide the lot would be for
monetary reasons. Many trees would be
destroyed. The change in landscaping
would have a definite affect on water flow
and drainage."
AT THIS POINT, Councilman Burt
Murdock moved that the council move to
the next action, and Mayor John Greavu
seconded. Earl Nelson, Donald Wiegert
and Norm Anderson voted no, so the
appeal proceeded.
Other neighbors then spoke to the
council, concerned with the costs if
Sterling Street had to be improved for the
lot change.
The motion to approve the variance was
approved, 3-2; Greavu and Murdock
voted no.

As the neighbors left the council
chambers, they argued among them-
selves, and also complained toward the
council that their side had not been•
considered and this was the beginning of
future problems for the city with
variances and lot divisions.
