N Five ordinances were approved on first
"r reading at the Aug. 17 Maplewood City
Council meeting.
An amendment to the overnight street
parking, which prohibits on-street
4 parking for more than two hours between
2 a.m. and 6 a.m. would allow the police
department authority to give permission
for overnight parking in hardship cases.
These harships would include residents
with new driveways,muddy driveways or
overnight out-of-town visitors. The per-
mits could be obtained for up to two
weeks.
Permission has been granted to
residents informally in the past. "The
days when we used to do things informally
are no longer with us," said police chief
Richard Schaller.
An amendment to the off-sale liquor
ordinance would extend the hours to sell
intoxicating liquor to 10 p.m. Fridays.
An ordinance which proposes an on-sale
wine license for Maplewood was approved
on first reading.
During a lawsuit against the city of
Maplewood, it was found that the or-
dinances regarding street addresses and
numbering did not have the provisions
needed to allow the city to establish ad-
dresses.An ordinance was written to give
the city this authority.
A second hand store and pawn shop
ordinance would provide the necessary
regulations for requiring records of
merchants.
