Adams joins
CS .staff
A new program coordinator began at
Maplewood Community Services Sept. 5,
taking the place of Kitty Sitter. Her name
is Pauline Adams and she comes to
Maplewood from the West St. Paul
recreation program.
"It's the same type of program,
although West St. Paul had more adults
and senior citizens," said Pauline. "I
want to do more work with teens, seventh
grade and up."
Pauline would also like to establish
more activities for young adults, ages 16-
20,in their times of leisure.Expanding on
the teen open gym idea at John Glenn
Junior High may be one way of doing this. 1
Adams also enjoys planning for special
events and holidays.
A former member of the Mankato I
Women's Swim Team, Adams stressed
that she likes athletics although"I am a
strong believer that children shouldn't be
forced into a certain sport,"she said. She
has been a teacher of handicapped
swimming in apartment complexes in 1
West St. Paul.
Adams has spent most of her life in
West St. Paul. She received her college
degree in recreation from Mankato State
College. Before working for the city of
West St. Paul, she worked at Abbott
Hospital as a recreational therapist in the
psychiatric units.
"It's a big challenge for me," Adams
said of her new position. "It's a good
program and I hope people take ad-
vantage of it."
