Larry Mehsikomer, 2205 E. County Road D., Maplewood, told the council he 7 '' ''' '''''4::''''''''''' :.: sought the license to groom, board and breed dogs—both his own and those of his customers. . THe location of the kennel,2360 County Road D, was the subject of extensive neighborhood objection. Nellie Mim michsoffer,2354 E. County Road D, told 7*4 . q.k the council, I live next door. There was a kennel there before and we were very, .–„o‘,„,-•, disappointed with it. Once they re there, they're there. ,- :;w ` "When they bring boarding dogs in, they're the ones that are lonesome and they're the ones that bark," she con- tinued. Mimmichsoffer and seven other neighbors submitted a petition urging the council to deny the license on the grounds of: the odor generated, noise, occasional escape of dogs, possible expansion of facilities and generation of traffic. The kennel's former owner, Clayton Huckenpoehler still resides at 2360 County Road D. He planned to rent the kennel facility to Mehsikomer. Huckenpoehler defended his operation: "That kennel was there 14 years and we il never hada complaint.Everybody on that block's got dogs. I've . atMehsikomer that if he puts the dogstold inside nigh ,he the noise.Mrs. Minnicthsoffewillr's got chickenseliminate and roosters —it all evens up. "I'm on Social Security and could use a little extra income. I don't think it would be amiss to grant him a license." The council asked Minnichsoffer whether she raised chickens. She responded she raised roosters for eating, "But we kill them and when they're gone, they're gone," she added. Although Mehsikomer admitted he would take the dogs inside at night, the council denied the license because the request was for an R-1 zone. It told Mehsikomer he would have to apply for a rezoning if he wanted to pursue the matter further.
