The citizens of Maplewood yesterday
overwhelmingly defeated the parks
Q acquisition and development referendum
r by a vote of 794 for and 1,655 against.The
p:••$870,000 bond referendum would have
further developed 19 of the city's parks
and provided funds to acquire 45 acres in
al new park land.
But the voters did approve the public
works facility bond referendum yester-
day by a narrow margin of 1,322 for and
1,132 against.The bond referendum will
allocate$995,000 to build a new facility,
improve the site which is bounded by
County Road B and White Bear Avenue,
acquire equipment and install land-
scaping on the site.
The voter turnout for the special
referendum was about 14.5 percent of the
total registered voters in the November,
1976 general election.
