The grand opening of Cafeine will take place Jan. 5 at the Ramsey l 13ii County library branch, according to information provided by library staff. This is the third coffee shop to move in to the library in about six years. "A coffee shop is a wonderful partnership with a library," said Susan The Maplewood branch of the Ramsey Nemitz, director of Ramsey County libraries. "We want people to linger County Library(Courtesy photo) in our libraries and coffee gives them another reason to do that." The system also has a coffee shop inside its Roseville branch and recently began offering self-serve coffee on a trial basis at its Mound View location based on the honor system. Dunn Bros Coffee opened at the Roseville library in 1990, boosting circulation at the branch by 10 percent in its first year, Nemitz said. Maplewood's model has struggled to find the same footing, Nemitz said. She added that a transit center that opened next to the library in the last year or two should boost Cafeine's sales. "I'm confident they can be successful," she said. In addition to coffee, the shop also sells food, including fried rice, paninis, grilled cheese, chicken nuggets and salad. The library is located at 3025 Southlawn Drive in Maplewood. Sarah Homer can be reached at 651-228-5539. Follow her at twitter.com/hornsarah.
