Maplewood man charged in violent St. Paul home invasion
During a home-invasion robbery in St. Paul, a woman was sexually assaulted, hot wax was poured on a
man, a 13-year-old boy was kicked in the ribs, and gunshots were fired, according to criminal charges
filed Friday.
The Ramsey County attorney's office charged Jeffray Leallen Walker, 32, of Maplewood with two counts
of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree
aggravated robbery. The criminal complaint gives the following details about the incident in the Dayton's
Bluff neighborhood:
A 32-year-old man reported he was sleeping on the couch in his residence in the 1300 block of Fremont
Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday when he woke to three or four males with guns in his living room.
"The men demanded he tell them where the money was, and they said they had been 'tipped off that he
had large amounts of cash,"the complaint said. "... The group trashed the home looking for money."
The robbers pistol-whipped the man several times in the head and face, and one poured hot wax on him.
The man heard gunshots and thought the suspects had killed his 30-year-old girlfriend when he heard her
scream. The suspects eventually brought all the man's family members to the living room, including his
13-year-old son. They threw the boy to the floor and kicked him in the ribs twice, but treated him with less
violence when they learned his age.
The suspects said they would kill everyone in the home except for a 1-year-old girl.
They were in the residence for about 30 minutes and stole a Ruger 9mm handgun, surveillance cameras,
two cellphones, two Xbox gaming devices and a PlayStation gaming device.
The 32-year-old man recognized Walker as one of the robbers. He said he had grown up with him "and
recognized him from several years ago when he was 'in the game' and selling drugs," but he said he been
"out of the game" for more than five years.
The man's girlfriend told police she woke to find two men in her bedroom, both armed with guns. One left,
and the other locked the door. He made her expose her breasts and perform oral sex on him at gunpoint.
Later, the woman barricaded the bedroom door and yelled for help out a window. One of the suspects
forced open the door and fired a gun twice at the woman's dresser, and the man who'd sexually assaulted
her returned and fired two shots into the ceiling.
When Walker was being arrested later, one of his children told police he had seen his father and two
other men with guns.
Walker has two prior felony convictions-- fifth-degree drug possession in 2008 and second-degree
burglary in 2009, according to Minnesota court records. He is scheduled to make his first court
appearance in the current case Monday.
Walker was the only person who had been booked into the Ramsey County Jail in the case as of Friday
morning, jail logs showed. Police said their investigation continues.
