Grocery chain Roundy's said Wednesday that 18 Rainbow Foods stores in the Twin Cities will
soon be transferred to their new owners.
The move completes the deal announced in May, when Milwaukee-based Roundy's said it was
selling the 18 stores to a group of buyers including local chains Cub Foods and Lunds-Byerly's. On
Wednesday Roundy's said "the conversion process has begun and the stores are expected to
transition to the new owners over the course of the next two weeks."
Ten stores will become Cub Foods: Roseville, St. Paul (Arcade Street), Oakdale, Lakeville, Eagan,
Chaska, St. Louis Park, Minneapolis (Lagoon), Minneapolis (Quarry) and Plymouth (Sixth
Avenue).
Two more will become Byerly's: Eden Prairie and Woodbury. Six other Rainbow stores will
continue to carry the Rainbow name: St. Paul-Midway, West St. Paul, Maplewood, Richfield,
Plymouth (Plymouth Station) and Minneapolis-Lake Street.
Separately, Roundy's has been shopping around their nine remaining Minnesota stores, but the
company gave no details on how that process is going. Those nine stores are located in Apple
Valley, Blaine, Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Cottage Grove, Inver Grove Heights, Maple Grove,
Savage and Shoreview.
The company previously said that. if no buyers are found, the unsold stores will be closed this
year.
