following public nature programs.
All programs are held at the Maple-
wood Nature Center unless otherwise
noted.
•Befriending Bumble Bees— Sat-
urday,June 21,from 10 a.m.to noon.
This free program is for adults and
families with children ages 5 and
older. Register by June 19. Learn
about Minnesota's bumble bees and
join the quest for the rusty-patched
bumble bee. Assist entomologist
Elaine Evans,by collecting bumble
bees from prairie flowers. Watch
as she identifies and records them
before releasing them. Evans is an
entomologist at the U of MN and co-
author of the book,Befriending Bum-
ble Bees.
• Wilderness Wisdom—Saturday,
June 28,from 10 to 11 a.m.This free
program is for adults and families
with children ages 7 and older. Reg-
ister by June 25.Join the naturalist
on a hike to discover what's safe and
what to watch out for on your sum-
mer camping trips. Make a poison
ivy rubbing. Learn how to identify
nightshade and stinging nettle.Hear
tips and tricks for preventing ticks
and mosquito bites. Get your own
"ticker"tape and Tick IA card.You
can purchase a Tick Remover for$5.
