Possible MnPASS expansion subject of forums in Maplewood, St. Paul Pioneer Press TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press APR 1 6 2014 Posted: TwinCities.com MnPASS project subject of forums The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs will host community meetings in Maplewood and St. Paul to discuss a possible second phase of the east metro MnPASS project. The optional carpool lanes will be constructed by late 2015 along Interstate 35E between downtown St. Paul and Little Canada Road. Using transponder technology, the lanes allow drivers to tap into a prepaid account to bypass normal traffic. MnDOT officials say it is likely that the MnPASS lanes will eventually be expanded north to County Road 96, and there are several ways the extension could be designed. MnDOT will present three design options during the community dialogues this month. The meetings will take place from 5 to 6:15 p.m. April 21 at the Maplewood Library; and from noon to 1:15 p.m. May 2 at the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce training room in the Securian Building, 401 N. Robert St., in downtown St. Paul. Participants are being asked to register in advance with Liz Harens at hare0045©umn.edu. Those who register will receive a free gas gift card.
