Woman's body found in Maplewood creek
April 11, 2014 1 UPDATED: 2 years ago
A deer antler collector found the body of a fully clothed, middle -age woman in a creek bed Saturday
afternoon in Maplewood's Kohlman Creek Preserve.
At 3:20 p.m., a man who told police he was collecting deer antlers in the wooded area of Beam Avenue
and Hazlewood Street, near Maplewood Mall, called police after he saw a woman's body half -
submerged in a creek, according to Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell.
Officers found the body about 30 yards from the area's walking path. One of them recognized the
woman from an incident last month in which she, or a similar -looking woman, was intoxicated, Schnell
said.
He said police have a tentative identity for the woman, but it's up to the Ramsey County medical
examiner to release her name.
The creek bed where her body was found was at the bottom of a steep embankment, from which
Schnell said the woman could have fallen.
Police didn't know why the woman was in the creek or how long her body had been there.
Schnell said the woman had not been reported missing.
Maplewood police who examined the area said there was no indication of foul play. The woman's body
also had no obvious trauma, Schnell said.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called to assist.
The incident remains under investigation.
